Flixotide

fluticasone propionate

Product Overview

What is Flixotide:

Flixotide (fluticasone propionate) belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids (often just called steroids). Fluticasone propionate works by reducing swelling and irritation in the lungs and has what is called an ‘anti-inflammatory action’.

Formulations of Flixotide:

Flixotide can be taken using one of 3 inhalation devices:

  • Accuhaler(containing 50, 100, 250, or 500 micrograms of fluticasone),
  • Diskhaler(containing 100, 250 or 500 micrograms of fluticasone), or
  • Evohaler (containing 50, 125 or 250 micrograms of fluticasone).

Flixotide can also be given as Nebules™ (0.5mg/2ml or 2mg/2ml).

What Flixotide Treats:

Flixotide helps to prevent asthma attacks in people who need regular treatment. This is why corticosteroids are sometimes called ‘preventers’. It needs to be used regularly, every day. Flixotide will not help treat sudden asthma attacks where you feel breathless. A different medicine is used for treating sudden attacks called a ‘reliever’. If you have more than one medicine, be careful not to confuse them.

Caution:

As with all inhaled corticosteroids, care should be taken when used for a long period of time.
