Product Overview

What is Flixotide™:

Flixotide™ (fluticasone propionate) belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids (often just called steroids). Fluticasone propionate works by reducing swelling and irritation in the lungs and has what is called an ‘anti-inflammatory action’.

Formulations of Flixotide™:

Flixotide™ can be taken using one of 3 inhalation devices:

  • Accuhaler™(containing 50, 100, 250, or 500 micrograms of fluticasone),
  • Diskhaler™(containing 100, 250 or 500 micrograms of fluticasone), or
  • Evohaler™ (containing 50, 125 or 250 micrograms of fluticasone).

Flixotide™ can also be given as Nebules™ (0.5mg/2ml or 2mg/2ml).

What Flixotide™ Treats:

Flixotide™ helps to prevent asthma attacks in people who need regular treatment. This is why corticosteroids are sometimes called ‘preventers’. It needs to be used regularly, every day. Flixotide™ will not help treat sudden asthma attacks where you feel breathless. A different medicine is used for treating sudden attacks called a ‘reliever’. If you have more than one medicine, be careful not to confuse them.

Caution:

As with all inhaled corticosteroids, care should be taken when used for a long period of time.
